Crimson Moonlight was started during Nyhemsveckan in 1997 by the drummer Gustav and one of the guitarists, Petter.  They decided to start a very brutal Blackmetal band to play a very unserious gig at the annual Ung Kraft Festival in Huskvarna.  They needed a vocalist and a bassist and then everything would be fixed.  Alex (former keyboardist of the band) was called and asked if he'd like to play the bass.  When he got to hear why he immediately said yes.  A vocalist could also be found; Simon Rosén of Vital Decision would want to sing.

On the fourth of July 1997, Petter, Gustav and Alex met to rehearse for the first time but also to record the very well-known demotape "Glorification of the master of light".  Most of the songs were written and recorded in the first rehearsal.  There was another rehearsal in July before most of the music was done.  Then there were some classical compositions before Simon could finally come and record his vocals.

Who was in Crimson Moonlight was thought to be a secret until the Ung Kraft Festival.  After time more and more people came to know who was in the band.  Finally, it was decided to make everything public.

In the beginning of March 1998 Petter felt that he would like to play full-time in Crimson Moonlight.  He spoke to the bassist Simon and guitarist Jonathan in his other band, Obsecration, that was going into the grave anyway.  They of course became very surprised as they got to know who Crimson Moonlight were but would like to be in the band.

On April 3, 1998, Crimson Moonlight had their first show, at KFUM in Jönköping.  Then the Ung Kraft Festival followed and the summer of 1998 they played in Norway at the DP Festival.

On July 31, 1998 they entered the studio to record a CD EP containing 5 songs.  It includes an Intro, 3 songs, and a classical song on piano.  The 3 songs are "Where Darkness Cannot Reach", "Final Battle" and "Eternal Emperor".  The
CD was released in mid-January 1999.
